Bases

The four emergency medical helicopters are each located at a separate base in Skive, Billund, Ringsted and Saltum, respectively.

Strategically Located

The bases are strategically placed to ensure optimal coverage in the parts of the Denmark which are located far from specialised treatment centres. This may, for example, be trauma centres and hospitals, which perform emergency balloon angioplasty in connection with a blood clot in the heart or burns units.

The map below shows the base locations and helicopter flight time, as well as driving distance to the four trauma centers in Denmark, located in Aalborg, Aarhus, Odense, and Copenhagen. Additionally, the map also shows which parts of the country have faster helicopter times compared to ambulance driving times. From the western parts of Jutland and Zealand as well as Lolland and Falster, the helicopter flight time to the nearest trauma center will, for example, be faster than the ambulance.

Helicopter types

The four Danish emergency medical helicopters are of the type EC 135 P2e and H135, which are constructed by Airbus Helicopters.

The external dimensions allow for safe landing close to the patient, thus saving valuable time. The lower the weight of the helicopters, the less risk of sinking down on soft ground.

The cabin size provides a good ergonomic working environment for the physician, who can reach all medical equipment and perform all treatment scenarios from his or her strapped position.
